I often hear clients say that they want to do dream work, but that they “are not having any dreams” and/or that they don’t remember their dreams.
First of all, we have around 5 dreams a night, so it is impossible “to not have any dreams.” It is more likely that due to most people not being familiar with how to do dream work, they don’t pay attention to their dreams, and they end up not being able to remember them.
The trick to remembering your dreams is actually a very simple one.
Here are the steps:
- Make the decision that you are going to start paying attention to your dreams. It is important to make this decision because this will tell your unconscious mind what you are intending to do.
- Get a dream journal and keep it on your nightstand near your bed. It is important to have it close to you, so that it can be easily accessible.
- Begin to write in your journal every single day even when you don’t remember your dreams.
For example, let’s say that it is the first day of you being very intentional about keeping track of your dreams, but you wake up the next day, and you don’t remember anything, what do you write?
Well, you write exactly that. For example, you can write, I had a good night’s sleep, I woke up feeling rested, but I don’t remember my dreams.
You just write in your dream journal every day about your night, and this will give your unconscious mind the message that you are now paying attention to your dreams, and by doing this simple exercise you will begin to remember your dreams.
- The final step is that once you begin to remember your dreams, you write the dream down in your journal and pay attention to the feeling tone in your dream.
